Barton Peveril Unveil £5m State-of-the-art Science Centre Extension

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College have unveiled the extension to its £5m Science Centre. The £1.5 million extension has added three state-of-the-art laboratories and three additional classroom-teaching spaces to the building, which already consisted of nine laboratories, prep-rooms, classroom-teaching and computer-study spaces, and a café.

The Science Centre was increased to accommodate the rising number of students attending the College and the growing popularity of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects in the region.

Speaking on the extension, Barton Peveril Vice Principal for Finance and Resources Mat Chart said: “We are delighted to be further extending our state-of-the-art STEM facilities. The quality of these facilities provides the growing number of students taking STEM subjects with outstanding accommodation, to support their ambitions and aspirations.”

The extension was opened by Barton Peveril alumni and Astronomy PhD student at the University of Exeter, Jessica Spake, during a ceremony on Thursday 29th August. Speaking on the extension, Jessica Spake said: “This building is a beautiful place for students, and women in particular (I hope), to be inspired and follow their curiosity into science.”
