From education to employment

Newtown College Agriculture HND Students Gain Top Grades

There was a trio of distinctions for three students who have just graduated from Newtown College (part of @NPTCGroup of Colleges ) after completing their Higher National Diplomas in Agriculture. Aleshia Powell, Kira Newey, and Libby Jones have all achieved top grades in the course after previously gaining their Level 3 qualifications, at Newtown College.

The students have received praise from Martin Watkin, Deputy Head of School for Catering, Hospitality, and Agriculture who said:

“The 2020 group is the first cohort to complete the HND Agriculture course and to have three students achieving the highest grade obtainable is a fantastic result for the trio and reflects the hard work they put in over the two years.”

The HND Agriculture course introduces a diverse range of employment opportunities within the land-based sector. Aleshia Powell has taken a position with the international cattle breeding company Genus-ABS, Kira Newey has joined NPTC Group of Colleges as a lecturer in Agriculture and Libby Jones has taken a role on her family farm.

“The HND Agriculture course was designed to suit the needs of those seeking professional development, studying at a higher education level in a local college whilst enabling them to fulfill other commitments such as part-time employment,” said Sue Lloyd-Jones, Head of School for Catering, Hospitality, and Agriculture at the College.

“The three of them have all worked alongside their studies and I am very proud of them and the fact that the course has fulfilled its original objective,” she added.
