Steve Palmer of LSC Lancashire Waxes For exp05

Steve Palmer of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) Lancashire went through great pain to promote the Retail Zone exp05 skills festival at Preston College- by getting his legs waxed!

“Getting my legs waxed was painful, but I”m hoping it will remind more schools to sign up to exp05 and help young people to make more informed choices about their future,” said Palmer.

The college will be heading up the festival, which will be run by the LSC and takes place in October at the Exhibition Centre at Myerscough College. Youngsters will get the chance to try their hand at hairdressing, beauty, make up and manicures, as well as participating in competitions at the event.

47 schools in the Lancashire area have already signed up to attend the festival, but the LSC are hoping to encourage other schools to register so that they don”t miss out. At last year’s event, the Hair and Beauty section was very busy and proved to be popular.

Shireen Underwood from Walshaw High School attended last year’s exp04 event. “I found exp04 very interesting because there were careers that I had never thought that people could do. It helped with my option choice and I am now doing a beauty therapy course at Nelson and Colne College,” she said.

Apart from hair and beauty, there will be ten other zones at the exp05 covering Business and IT, Construction, Creative and Media, Engineering and many more. The event will take place on the 18, 19 and 20th October 2005. Schools who have not yet registered for this year’s event, should visit the official website at exp05.co.ukor alternatively, telephone 0845 300 0250 for more information.
