‘The Big Tank Guys’ build on global reputation thanks to DEBI training

The Department of Enterprise and Business Innovation (DEBI) recently worked with local storage tank solution company Formatank to deliver a number of courses in a bid to upskill their workforce and build on their growing reputation as a leader in tank containment solutions.

Delivered through the Flexible Workforce Development Funding (FWDF), company staff attended courses such as IOSH Managing Safely, Electrical Awareness and UT Thickness & Lamination – all vital in ensuring the company remain competitive in the market.

Formatank benefitted hugely from the fully-funded training, with Managing Director Barry Veitch saying:

“Borders College DEBI sorted out a course for “Tank Inspector” for us, and we made a big noise about this qualification to our clients. We subsequently won jobs to inspect various storage tanks using our new found knowledge at sites in Northern Ireland, and continue to be awarded more at present.”

The Galashiels-based company, known as ‘The Big Tank Guys’ began in 2012 with the purpose of finding cost-effective solutions for tank containment issues.

Now partnered with the global leader in GRP tank manufacturing Toro Equipment, who have tanks situated around the globe, they have added 2,500 years to the life of old tanks, saving businesses over 6 million pounds.

Formatank plan to continue their relationship with the DEBI in 2022 to secure a second lot of Flexible Workforce Development (Phase 2 SME) Funding.
