Cardiff and Vale College Cabin Crew students careers soar
A group of ten Cabin Crew students from Cardiff and Vale College are celebrating new jobs, despite only starting their courses in September.
It means that the entire Cabin Crew cohort will now progress straight from College on to the first step of their chosen careers when they complete their courses in March. Nine of the students have been employed by Swissport to provide check-in services at Cardiff Airport, and one has found work with easyJet. Last November a further three students accepted job offers from British Airways and easyJet.
“We have had a long and reciprocal partnership with Swissport over the last ten years,” CAVC Aerospace and Cabin Crew Lecturer Kay Davies said. “If you go into Cardiff Airport now you will still find lots of former students there.”
The students are currently based at the College’s renowned International Centre for Aerospace Training, which is also based at Cardiff Airport. They are thrilled to have found employment thanks to the skills they learned on their course.
“The Cabin Crew course has been a great course and help to me,” 20-year-old Amir Mushtaq from Cardiff said. “It helped me improve my confidence and it has helped me to get a job.
“I will be sorry to leave but it will be a privilege to be working just across the road at Cardiff Airport. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in this industry.”
Zoë Davies, 21 and from Llantwit Major, said: “I am very happy to begin employment with Swissport at Cardiff Airport in March. It will give me an amazing experience with the aviation industry and is one step closer to becoming cabin crew in the near future.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the Cabin Crew course as it helped me gain more knowledge of the industry. I cannot wait to see what my future holds.”
“It’s been a wonderful course – I don’t want to leave, plus the tutors are fab!” 18-year-old Hannah Williams from Penarth said. “Luckily I will only be across the road.
“I’m thrilled to have been offered a job by Swissport and I can’t wait to start.”
Gwenllian Arkless, 19 and from Cardiff, said: “Not only did a learn a lot about cabin crew while being on this course but also my confidence has improved when it comes to interviews. So when I found out that we had this job opportunity with Swissport I knew that my tutor, Kay Davies, was the one to thank.”
Nineteen-year-old Aimee Marshall from Barry said: “I really enjoy the Cabin Crew course. I’ve made many new friends and have gained a variety of skills.
“My teacher Kay has been amazing and supportive and I will be very sad to leave. I have been offered a job at Swissport and I am very excited to start as it will be an amazing experience to put on my CV and help me progress to becoming a member of cabin crew with Emirates in the future.”
Olivia Knight, 18 and from Cardiff, said: “I have really enjoyed my time on the CAVC Cabin Crew course, I have made friends and will have memories for life. I believe this has helped me and set me up for my future in cabin crew – it has helped my confidence and my personal skills. The teachers have been amazing and very helpful.
“I’m so glad I started my career here and am very excited to start my journey just over the road with Swissport.”
Siône James, also 18 and from Cardiff, added: “I’m thrilled to have such a brilliant opportunity. I couldn’t have done it without the Cabin Crew course and the wonderful teachers.”
Swissport are also set to interview Level 3 Aviation Operations students for part time jobs and work experience, and Aerospace Engineering students to work as ramp agents and baggage cart drivers.
