Come for a Cwtch

We are excited to announce the launch of our new community hub – the ‘Cwtch’ – right in the heart of Brecon. The former tourist information centre will open its doors before spring and will allow members of the public easy access to College support and information. 

It was decided by the College’s Board of Governors that the naming of the building should be by staff based at Brecon Beacons College. The aim of the new building is to create a vision for further education in Brecon and for it to be part of the community with open access for all. 

Lecturer Helen Griffiths who named the building said: “I wanted a Welsh element to the name as well as it to be welcoming. The main purpose of the name was to be about being the heart of the College, a welcoming place that would bring people in.”

Helen goes onto say: “I was also able to make CWTCH into an anagram (College within the Community Hub). As the College would be in the heart of the community I felt it was important that the name reflected this.”
