Dale’s SMART move helps students upskill in new tech

Borders College (@BordersCollege) Lecturer Dale Clancy recently entered a competition, run by Sparks Magazine (@sparksmagazine), and was delighted to be announced as one of the winners, bagging a SMART Tech bundle for his efforts.

The state-of-the-art equipment includes an Alexa Echo Dot, SMART plugs, SMART lamps, SMART sensors and some SMART controls from Ansell Lighting and Dale plans to use the tech to help upskill students and contractors.

The bundle will also be used to help supplement the SMART display in the Hawick campus, which already has HIVE, Netatmo and Yale SMART products, amongst others.

Electrical Installation Lecturer Dale commented:

“Due to COVID, we have been unable to have any students on-site to use the new technology already installed at our Hawick site.

“With the addition of this equipment, it will really benefit the learners in a lot of trades, especially the electrical apprentices who now have a SMART Technology unit as part of their apprenticeship. It’s a great addition to our resources.”

Sparks Magazine is a magazine for electrical apprentices and students studying at colleges in the UK. They provide magazines to the students every few months with features on learners, technology and also topic-specific information and quizzes. Online, they also have a CPD area which staff can use to refresh on some aspects to help support the learners with their delivery.
