Citizenship is a key focus within modern education and NCFE has already developed a range of bespoke qualifications including Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Citizenship and Level 2 Certificate in Active Citizenship

David Grailey, Chief Executive at NCFE, said: “Citizenship is an essential skill which we should actively encourage young people to develop. These skills allow young people to realise their own potential, which in turn will benefit many aspects of our society.

“NCFE is committed to developing high quality qualifications that really do make a difference to students’ skills and awareness. Our citizenship qualifications are aimed at learners aged 13 + and have been specifically developed to provide young people with an introduction to some of the ideas and issues that learners need to be aware of in order to be an active citizen in the UK and within their own community.”

On completion of NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Citizenship, candidates will have gained an understanding of:

  • What it means to be an active citizen.
  • How they can protect their community by making it safer, cleaner and healthier.
  • Promoting human rights in their community.

On completion of NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Active Citizenship, learners should be able to:

  • Explain what citizenship means.
  • Recognise factors that influence their identity as a citizen.
  • Show an awareness of some of the important issues for all citizens.
  • Know how to practice active citizenship in their community.
