The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has confirmed the quality and standards of provision at Mid-Cheshire College following its review in February 2016.

A team of QAA reviewers visited Mid-Cheshire College and judged that its academic standards, the quality and enhancement of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.

The review identified good practice in the interview observations process which is conducted by specially qualified staff and secures a consistent and high-quality student admissions experience.

The review made several recommendations for improvements, including:

  • to make all external examiner reports consistently available to students

  • to formalise the relationship between the key committees responsible for ensuring that effective review and enhancement of the provision takes place.

Among other recommendations, the review report also highlights the need for the College to strengthen its framework for overseeing the quality of work-based learning opportunities.

Karen Rough, Director of Quality and Learning at Mid-Cheshire College, said: ‘We were delighted with the number of extremely positive findings within the report.  This rigorous assessment of our higher education offer, and the subsequent findings, demonstrate the commitment of the staff and students currently on programme with us.  I am exceptionally proud of these achievements.’

QAA’s Higher Education Reviews are carried out by experts from other universities and colleges. Every review team includes a student reviewer, because QAA believes that students should be partners in the quality assurance of their education.

The team that reviewed Mid-Cheshire College comprised Dr Glenn Barr (independent reviewer), Joanne Caulfield (student reviewer from Bangor University) and Lorraine Copley (Barnsley College).

A successful review means that the College can display the QAA Review Graphic, indicating to UK and international students that the College meets national requirements for standards and quality.
