Photography graduates showcase

@BarkingCollege celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary of its foundation degree in (FdA) in Photography with a showcase of graduates’ work.

This year, due to COVID-19, the graduates showed their work online, instead of a graduate show in a London Gallery.

Gloria Mezzanotte, FdA Photography graduate’s final project was based on a trip to Nigeria, the birthplace of her mother. Gloria explains: “This year’s project was really personal for me, as it explored my identity and it opened up experiences which were left behind for too long. I’m grateful for this course and my course leader, David Bennett, who encouraged me to make my trip to Nigeria and also advised me on other ways I could look into my project even further.

“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to present my work as I planned due to COVID-19. It was really discouraging because the presentation was a big part of my project, but it got better as I received the support and motivation needed; I still had the chance to seek for feedback which I had the great opportunity to get from [top photographer] Tim Gutt through a video call.

“Despite the challenges, I had a great year, where I was able to improve many of my skills and adapt in various situations, which will help me think and work positively.”

David Bennett, Programme Leader for photography at the College commented: “80% of our graduates become freelancers and operate industries including fashion and editorial, documentary and fine-art photography. This year’s cohort is an extremely talented group and we are so proud of what they have achieved. I’m looking forward to hearing about their successes in the future, which I’m sure will be numerous.”
