With studies showing entry rates in 2018 was 27.9% in England, 26.3% in Wales, 25.9% in Scotland, and 28.1% in Northern Ireland, student accommodation company Fresh Student Living has put together a guide to help students determine the impact studying in a particular city can have on their lives.
Despite London being home to top-rated universities, the capital is the least affordable for students, particularly those who don’t have jobs throughout the duration of their degree.
According to a recent study by Totally Money, London is in the bottom 10 for overall rankings on affordability for university towns, and has the highest cost of living totally on average £807 a month for students.
In 2017 the Hescu Graduate Market Trends report revealed:
- Those who grew up and studied in the same region, then choosing to remain there for work accounted for 46%
- Those who move to study, and remain in the same region accounted for 12%
- Students who move for the university, but back home for work accounted for 25%
- Any students who move region to study, and another to work, dubbed ‘Incomers’ accounted for 18% of all graduates
