On March 28, 2017, the Secretary of State for Education made an announcement regarding the merger of the Education Funding Agency (EFA) and the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) into a unified entity which came into effect in April 2017.
The ESFA operates as an executive agency under the sponsorship of the Department for Education and is responsible for funding education and skills development for individuals of all ages, including children, young people, and adults.
The merger of the EFA and the SFA to form the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) marked a significant step towards streamlining and improving the funding process for education and skills in the United Kingdom.
The merger also brought about opportunities for enhanced collaboration and coordination between different educational sectors. By aligning funding strategies and priorities, the ESFA aimed to bridge gaps in the educational journey, facilitating smoother transitions for learners from early years to further education and into the workforce.
This integrated approach aimed to foster lifelong learning and skills development, supporting individuals in achieving their full potential and contributing to the overall economic growth and prosperity of the nation.
