Leading learning organisation, learndirect, has appointed Julia Chippendale to the newly created role of Group Development Director.

Julia joins learndirect from a specialist Awarding Organisation, where she was Managing Director.  With significant experience within the skills sector and beyond, Julia previously worked for a sector skills council and as a director of a building services company.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining learndirect at such an exciting time,” said Julia. “I’ve watched how learndirect has evolved its offering in response to market demand, developing capability to help people needing support to get into work, as well as supporting them to progress their careers once in employment.

“With an enviable list of employer partners, a nationwide infrastructure and assessment capabilities, I’ve always felt learndirect is uniquely placed in the UK skills market.  The advent of the Apprenticeship levy and the new technical routes are just two examples of how the sector is going to keep evolving.  I’m excited about helping to shape a new future for learndirect, building upon our successes of the past.”

Andy Palmer, Group Chief Executive at learndirect said: “Julia brings a great deal of energy as well as relevant knowledge and experience to the role.  I’m delighted to welcome her to the learndirect family.

“As a large national training provider working across the whole of the skills landscape, we’re well placed to learn from our considerable learner base to provide insight and add value.  Julia will work with me and the Group Executive team, as well as our three lines of business, to look at what we can do next to support economic growth and progression for people, employers and the nation as a whole.”

Launched in 2000, learndirect is the UK’s largest integrated training provider. We’ve changed the lives of around 4.5million people, helping them get the skills they need for work and to progress in their careers. We’ve also supported over 75,000 organisations to improve the skills of their workforce.
