An amazed onlooker has helped to make a story of four students from Tresham College of Further and Higher Education go viral following their heroic actions during last week’s Storm Doris in Corby, Northamptonshire.

The four students, Harry Glass, Adam O’Neill, Liam Meny and Ryan McAuley, all 16 years old and currently studying  BTEC Level 2 in Sport at the college in Corby, were on their lunch break in the town’s McDonalds. Adam saw an elderly gentleman get blown off his feet during the strong winds experienced during Storm Doris.

The group dropped everything and ran to the man’s rescue and with the help of passers-by put the gentleman into the recovery position, called for an ambulance and shielded him from the winds before emergency services arrived to take him to hospital. They even rushed to find the parking attendant to notify them of what had happened to avoid penalties for the man who had parked in a nearby car park.

Following their actions, an amazed onlooker, Thirza Smith O’Boyle, decided to take a group photo of the boys before praising what they had just done and asking people to recognise their kind actions.

Since this, the original post has been shared over 70,000 shares, nearly 200k reactions and just under 23,000 comments praising the group of students.

Speaking to The Mirror newspaper,  Tresham student Adam O’Neill said:

“Me and the guys are pretty overwhelmed by the nice comments and just how big the whole situation has become. We didn’t really think much of it at first. We were just doing a good deed!”

When interviewed by the local paper, Northants Telegraph, Liam Meney added:

“If you see someone fall over you’re not going to just sit there and watch.”

It was reported that the gentleman was taken to hospital with several cuts and bruises but he has since returned home.

Corrie Harris, Deputy Principal at Tresham College of Further and Higher Education commented:

“I’m very proud of how our students acted so selflessly to help someone that was in need last week. At Tresham we see many examples of how young people are helping others in their community and it is great that our students are getting the credit that they deserve for helping this gentleman before he was taken to hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

The group were presented with gift vouchers and cinema vouchers from the college by their tutor Craig Harrower.
