The UK’s leading provider of outsourced waste management and recycling services, Reconomy has successful concluded its 2018 summer internship programme, with two interns opting to join the company on a full-time basis.
The programme had attracted over 140 candidates from all over the West Midlands, who applied for one of company’s prestigious summer placements, each lasting up to 12 weeks.
Following an extensive interview and assessment process, 12 ambitious individuals were selected and placed within various departments across Reconomy, including customer services, finance and operations.
The idea of programme together was to offer school leavers, college and university students, and graduates the experience of a busy office environment over the summer months. Each intern was given the opportunity to learn about different areas of the business and gain invaluable, hands-on experience to boost their CVs.
Lyndsey Denning, the HR manager of Reconomy had said:
“The calibre of this year’s applicants was hugely impressive, and the 12 individuals we selected have conducted themselves very professionally and grasped this opportunity with both hands. They are all a great example of the aspiring business talent we have here in Shropshire and across the West Midlands.”
With the programme ending, 10 of the interns have returned to full-time educations. The remaining two interns, 19-year-old Tom Edwards and 21-year-old Rebecca Morris have both agreed to stay on, after being offered longer-term opportunities at Reconomy.
Having opted to take some time away from full-time education, Tom has joined Reconomy as Commercial Executive, while Rebecca has been appointed Credit Control Administrator, having graduated from Keele University with an Accounting and Finance Degree in June.
Speaking about his internship, Tom Edwards said:
“I applied for the internship on the last day they were accepting applications. I thought it would give me a broader understanding of how business works, but it also made me realise that I wanted some extended time away from education, so I’m delighted to have been offered a full-time role within the company.”
Rebecca Morris added:
“As a newly qualified graduate, finding a full-time job was always my priority and I knew the internship would look good on my CV. Because the people here are so friendly and supportive, I quickly realised I wanted to stay on beyond the internship, so I was delighted to accept their offer of a permanent position.”
Reconomy specialises in implementing best practice approaches to waste management, helping its numerous clients to minimise their waste output through increased resource efficiencies.
In 2017, the company managed the safe disposal of approximately 3m tonnes of waste, thanks to its container and skip hire services encompassing all manner of waste management needs, from food and general waste to hazardous materials.
