adi Group prove ‘Apprenticeships Work’ this National Apprenticeship Week
Monday 5th – Friday 9th March marks National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), a UK wide initiative which seeks to encourage more young people to choose an apprenticeship. The theme of this year’s NAW is ‘Apprenticeships Work’ which raises awareness of how apprenticeships benefit individuals, employers, the community and the wider economy.
In-line with this year’s NAW, multi-disciplined engineering company, adi Group, celebrate the success of one of their apprentices whose dedication to the job is proof of how apprenticeships can work for individuals and employers.
In 2015 Nyron Howell was recruited as an apprentice within adi Healy Compressors, following a work placement with adi Group through the BITC ‘Ready for Work’ programme, which gives opportunities to individuals from a disadvantaged background.
Taking the skills he learned during his adi apprenticeship, Nyron now utilises them to deliver a professional and expert service for adi’s clients. Nyron has since worked on the compressors at many high-profile business sites including, Cadbury World, Blackpool Central Pier, Walkers Crisps, KP Snacks and Müller.
adi also supported Nyron in his next step as a full-time adi Healy Compressor engineer, and the young man is now responsible for being on out of hours call-out, responding to client break downs and the owner of a company van.
Detailing how his apprenticeship worked for him, Nyron said:
“Because I chose an apprenticeship I was able to do a job that I always wanted – a job that offers different challenges every day and keeps you thinking. When you do an apprenticeship, your co-workers are always willing to help you when you are stuck no matter how big or small the job is and no matter the time. Everyone understands that you are still learning so the support is always there.”
Thanks to the consistent support of the adi Group, and Nyron’s own drive to succeed within the engineering industry, he was also recently presented with adi’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award. The awards are just one of the group’s internal schemes which recognise apprentices that go above and beyond in their day-to-day work.
As this year’s NAW highlights, it’s not just the individuals taking up an apprenticeship that benefit, it’s the employers too. Explaining how apprenticeships work for employers, adi’s CEO Alan Lusty said:

With a fresh view of the business, and working world, they bring new and exciting ideas to the table. Employers also have the opportunity to tailor their apprentice’s skills to their business needs. At adi, we’ve been supporting schemes such as the BITC ‘Ready for Work’ programme for many years. Utilising this programme and the more traditional apprentice recruitment routes, we have nurtured many of our apprentices into a permanent position within the company.”
