From education to employment

British Army give the lowdown to Barnsley College Public Services students

Barnsley College Public Services students had the opportunity to learn about life, careers and opportunities in the British Army.

Students took part in a range of command-based activities that tested their problem solving and team-working skills. They also heard from representatives from the Army via a range of presentations.

Stuart Meacher, Core Engagement Team Warrant Officer for the British Army Air Corps, said: “Our aim is to engage students and inform them correctly about who we are and what we do.

“Hopefully they can take that away as food for thought and with the potential intention of doing more research and becoming more situationally aware of what other opportunities there are, not just in the military but in other uniformed services.”

Joe Campbell, Public Services Course Leader, added: “Four regiments attended from the British Army to provide students with an in depth look at careers and opportunities whilst providing a range of command tasks for students to engage with.

“Students gained knowledge of opportunities within different British Army regiments. They’ve developed command and communication skills, which will benefit them in College and employment.”
