From education to employment

FREE English and Maths courses at Brockenhurst College

People looking to advance their English and maths skills can attend classes free of charge at Brockenhurst College if they meet funding criteria.

Over-19s without a GCSE grade C/4 in the subjects will be able to take up the free opportunities if they have lived in an EU country for three years.

Studying for the GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications can enable progression at work, broaden job opportunities, or help people support their children’s learning, the College said.

The skills and knowledge gained can also assist in everyday activities such as formal letter writing, speaking in different situations, and calculating costs and wages, the College source added.

Lessons are easily accessible at just two hours a week, with both daytime and evening study options available.

Classes run from September to June at Brockenhurst College and its Adult Learning Centre in New Milton.

Head of Curriculum Debbie Cuffe said: “It’s never too late to acquire skills in English and Maths. At Brockenhurst College we’re very pleased to be able to offer these courses absolutely free for the vast majority of applicants.”

The learning programmes are available at £811 each for those not eligible for funding.
