Cardiff and Vale College hosts election hustings

Candidates in the upcoming Welsh Assembly Elections have battled it out at a special hustings event at Cardiff and Vale College.

Cardiff South and Penarth AM Vaughan Gething was joined by Cardiff Central candidate for Plaid Cymru Glyn Wise, Cardiff South and Penarth Liberal Democrat candidate Nigel Howells and Amelia Womack, the Green Party candidate for South Wales Central and Cardiff Central. The Conservative party and UKIP had been invited to send candidates but did not attend.

The hustings was organised by the College’s Debating Club and was extremely well attended by students from courses across the College. Chaired by CAVC A Level student Matthew Woods and facing questions from the students in the audience, the candidates discussed a variety of topics from the M4 relief road through to tuition fees, the EU, benefits and who would they work alongside in the event of a coalition.

Vaughan Gething later tweeted: “Pleasure to attend hustings in my own constituency hosted by CAVC. A real joy to see students engaging in the election.”
