Construction Traineeship Programme introduced at Cambridge Regional College

November 2021 will see the launch of a Traineeship Programme in Construction at Cambridge Regional College (@CRC_College), Huntingdon campus, with plans to extend the provision to the Cambridge campus as demand arises. 

The Construction Traineeship is aimed at young people aged between 16 – 24 (or 25 with a EHCP plan) who are eligible to work in England and have little or no work experience. The course is fully funded and there are no specific prior learning requirements for the qualification, although applicants should be motivated to gain the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the Construction industry. 

The programme will be delivered in two parts; five weeks of college-based study at the Huntingdon campus, followed by six weeks (180 hours) of work experience with an employer, identified by the college based on individual needs and requirements. 

During the first five weeks, individuals will spend their time preparing for a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) test which could lead to a labourer’s green card, giving the holder access to building sites. Following this, individuals will be supported into a work placement within the construction industry where they will gain essential work experience skills and exposure to opportunities within the industry including site labouring, domestic and commercial construction, and routes onto construction apprenticeships. 

The first Construction Traineeship Programme will commence 15th November 2021, with work experience starting in January 2022.
