CT Skills celebrates learner success from apprentice to business owner

Leading Midlands based training provider, CT Skills were pleased to meet with new business owner; Charlotte Brooks who shared her journey to success with them after it all began with a Childcare apprenticeship with with the provider.

In 2016, Charlotte applied for a role through CT Skills as a Childcare apprentice with a local nursery in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire; she quickly succeeded the apprenticeship and due to her leadership qualities she naturally progressed on to the Team Leading apprenticeship with CT Skills.

Charlotte said; “I loved working with children but after completing both of my apprenticeships I wanted to progress further and I couldn’t. My CT Skills Assessor, Lucy, would always say she could see me going further and setting up my own business, but it took some time for me to see it too.”

After some careful consideration, Lucy from CT Skills gave Charlotte the push she needed and at the beginning of this year she left her workplace to set up her own child minders.

She continues; “I wanted to give the children the best I could and I felt that by setting my own business up, I would be able to do just that. I launched O’Hannah Childminding Services and within a few months word of mouth spread and I became extremely busy. This is when I realised I needed an extra pair of hands.”

Charlotte already had family friend Megan in mind as knew how much Megan enjoyed working with children after previously offering her work experience at a nursery. However, as much as Megan wanted the job she also wanted to gain the additional qualifications to work in Childcare in order to work to the best of her ability.

Charlotte said; “After recruiting Megan, I called CT Skills and spoke to Recruitment Advisor Ross about progressing her on to a Childcare apprenticeship. Within weeks Megan was enrolled on to the apprenticeship and this time Lucy was back but as Megan’s Assessor now.”

Charlotte and Megan are both pleased to be working together and are excited to see the business grow and develop it further to potentially recruit again in the future.

Charlotte concludes; “The process with CT Skills has been great and I talk about them all the time to other people. They are always straight forward and I have worked with them as an apprentice and now an employer and I can’t see why anyone would want to go elsewhere for apprenticeship support. Thank you!”

Recruitment Advisor Ross said; “It is always great to see our learners succeed and this story is particularly great because we saw Charlotte progress from an apprentice in to a business owner, recruiting her own apprentice. CT Skills is changing lives one step at a time and I am proud to be a part of this process.”
