From education to employment

Cumbria County Council partners with PHX Training to help local people get back into work

Skills and training provider PHX Training has partnered with the county council to help local people in Cumbria get back into work.

The training provider has been selected by Cumbria County Council to deliver vocational training courses to adults across the county in a bid to reduce local unemployment.

The partnership is funded from the county council’s adult education budget in an effort to boost local employability skills across the region, as well as reskilling individuals who are looking to find new work in different roles.

PHX Training, which has three training centres in Barrow, Carlisle and Workington, will provide vocational training courses to help local adults find work in different sectors such as hospitality, customer service and retail.

The contract, which will run until July 2020, follows on a successful partnership earlier this year delivering successful vocational courses, supporting many Cumbrian adults back in to work locally.

Shirley Williams, Development Director at PHX Training, said:

“Partnership working between training providers and local councils can make a real difference in helping more local people find jobs and it’s great to see Cumbria County Council taking such a positive approach to reducing unemployment.

“We believe that by boosting the skill levels of our residents and by reskilling people to work in different roles they are more likely to find and keep a job, all of which is great for our local economy.”

PHX Training delivers apprenticeship qualifications in business administration skills, offering learners skills for roles such as office executive, office supervisor, membership administrator and personal administrator. Apprenticeships delivered by PHX also include team leading, customer service, hospitality, management and warehousing across the North West.

The company also provides the new employability practitioner standard level four, which has been designed to help develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours of those helping people to address and overcome obstacles to secure suitable and sustainable employment.

As well as apprenticeship training, PHX Training delivers government-backed initiatives, adult skills, NEET (not in education, employment or training), employability contracts and work-based learning programmes.

The PHX team of qualified trainers also deliver a diverse range of resources including offline, online and face-to-face services at six training centres in Barrow, Carlisle, Workington, Morecambe, Preston and Blackpool.
