From education to employment

Dearne Valley College Gets Gold for Plastering Courses

The Plastering department is proud to have received gold status within the Thistle partnership with British Gypsum, which supports the next generation of plasterers by addressing the current skills gap within the construction industry.

British Gypsum Partnership works with the plasterers of the future, through networking with colleges and training provides across the UK. Plastering students have the opportunity to get involved in qualifications that are market leading, coupled with industry relevant training services and support.

To be able to achieve gold status, the plastering department needed to actively engage students to use the Thistle Partnership Learning Hub as an additional resource, support students into employment via employer open days at the College and actively enter students into competitions such as SkillBuild, as well as enter the National Plasterers Awards on an annual basis.

Stephen Blythe, plastering tutor at Dearne Valley College said: “We’re extremely proud to receive this award. By working closely with British Gypsum, this means that all students will be trained on materials that are used on every building site in the country, which will help them with their progression into Apprenticeships or full-time employment.”
