Havant & South Downs College secures share of £9 million T Level funding

It has been revealed today that Havant & South Downs College (HSDC) is one of the 11 colleges nationally to receive a share of the government’s T Level capital fund to upgrade facilities.

HSDC, which is the only College in the region to be providing all three T Level programmes, will receive a share of £8.65 million to help build new classrooms and refurbish buildings in readiness for the introduction of the new technical qualification in September 2020.

HSDC has secured the biggest investment locally, with £495,030 going towards improving its facilities.

T Levels are an exciting new opportunity for students in the region as they will be the first to be able to choose from T Levels in Digital, Construction and Education and Childcare.

These qualifications will be on a par with A Levels and form part of a wider programme of work to transform technical education, giving students genuine world class choices when they are deciding on an academic or technical route.

Speaking about the T Level capital fund announcement, Deputy Principal of HSDC, Richard Barlow, said: “This is fantastic news – our substantial bid for capital funding to support the delivery of T Levels has been fully approved by the Department for Education. As the only provider in the region to be selected to deliver all three of the first T Levels, this investment will support world-class facilities for technical education.

“From September 2020, our South Downs Campus will be leading the way for students preparing for careers in digital, early years education and construction careers. The new facilities that will be opened, supported by this investment, will inspire students to achieve true excellence in technical skills and knowledge.”
