From education to employment

Gower College Swansea Health and Well-being day 2019

Gower College Swansea recently held its second annual Health and Wellbeing Day at the Tycoch Campus.

Over 400 members of staff enjoyed the free activities which included yoga, swingball, inflatable basketball, guided walks, tai chi, gardening, a Greatest Showman-themed dance lesson, singing and relaxing massages

Staff were also able to browse the stalls set up at the College’s Sport Centre and find out more about gym membership, fitness and nutrition and other initiatives such as the College book club and Health Assured employee assistance programme.

After working up an appetite, there was deliciously healthy West African food and frozen yoghurt on offer.

“We were really delighted with the success of our second Health and Wellbeing Day, it’s a fantastic opportunity for staff to relax and enjoy some free activities at the end of another busy academic year, “ says Director of HR, Sarah King. “The feedback we have received so far has been overwhelmingly positive so this is definitely something that we will look to grow and develop for the future. I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who took part and to all our corporate and community partners who came along and supported the event.”

Earlier this year, Gower College Swansea achieved the Gold Corporate Health Standard Award in recognition of its policy for maintaining and promoting a high quality of health and wellbeing in the workplace.

This takes the form of regular targeted campaigns such as Time To Talk (mental health awareness), Hydration Week, Back Care Week and National No Smoking Day. There was also a well-attended talk on ‘menopause in the workplace’ with author Nicki Williams, which was live-streamed across all campuses for the benefit of those who could not attend in person.
