INFINITI & Renault F1 Team Encourage Women To Pursue Engineering Careers #INWED19

Premium car manufacturer and Renault F1® Team Technical Partner INFINITI continue to support and promote gender diversity in the automotive and motorsport industries on the occasion of International Women in Engineering Day 2019 – an initiative that aims to raise the profile of women in engineering and encourage more female students to consider engineering as a career.

Both INFINITI and Renault F1® Team firmly believe in the significant advantages of gender diversity and experience it within their own teams. As a result, they’ve worked together to identify and showcase prominent role models in key positions at Renault F1® Team and INFINITI’s highly successful Engineering Academy, with the aim to inspire more female students to pursue a career in engineering.

Research from Microsoft, “Girls in STEM: the importance of role models” has revealed that the number of girls interested in STEM subjects, on average, almost doubles when they have a role model to inspire them. Their findings concluded that there is a clear link between role models and an increased passion for science, technology, engineering and maths subjects. These women are also more likely to believe in themselves and evaluate themselves as higher performers across every STEM subject compared to girls without role models.

Tommaso Volpe, Director of Global Motorsport & Performance Projects at INFINITI, commented:

“We have a very diverse team at INFINITI, and we experience the benefits that diversity brings to the company on a daily basis. Not only cultural diversity, which we actively seek and promote through initiatives like the INFINITI Engineering Academy; but also gender diversity, which is key to the development of any industry.

“Diverse thinking, new ideas and different approaches are especially important in engineering, as they are the cornerstone of technological progress”, continued Volpe.

“Women in Engineering Day is a fantastic initiative, and what better way for us at INFINITI and our partners at Renault F1® Team to give our support than by providing female students with role models and showcasing the work they do to inspire other women to pursue careers in engineering as well.”

INFINITI Academy Engineer and W Series racing driver Sabré Cook also commented:

“It’s great meeting other female engineers at INFINITI and Renault F1® Team who are excelling in their fields and are very much respected in the industry. I had the opportunity to meet Renault F1® Team Performance Operations Section Leader, Kayleigh Messer, who inspired me and is proof that there is space for women in engineering, at any level, and that it is possible to get to the top regardless of who you are or where you come from.

“I wish there were more women in the industry, and I’d strongly encourage any women to get into it and go after a career in engineering: there is a lot to contribute, a lot to gain, and lots of satisfaction that come with it.”

Sabré Cook and Kayleigh Messer are just two examples of women paving the way for fellow ambitious female engineers to pursue their dream job.
