From education to employment

International students have outstanding GCSE success

There were all smiles for Brecon Beacons College’s ESOL (English speakers of other languages) international students who had outstanding grades in their English GCSE recently.

French international student Helene Moutier and Spanish student Isabel Sanchez both gained A*, with Antonella Molnar gaining a B in International GCSE English as a second language.

Antonella originally from Hungary wanted to improve her English language skills after moving to the area. The waitress at the local Army Camp talked about how: “I wanted to improve my English and gain confidence, because of my work this was necessary.”

Antonella joined an ESOL course at the College to practise and improve her English with the help of lecturer Jacqui Griffiths. Antonella said: “Without Jacqui’s help it wouldn’t have happened, I am so thankful.”

With Antonella having little time to study due to her also being a mum, Jacqui helped her achieve her goal. She goes on to say: “When Jacqui told me I had passed I was over the moon, it makes me want to learn more and more, and widen my opportunities.”

As well as Antonella two other students, both from Hungary, used their English skills gained by attending ESOL lessons, to study and achieve GCSE Maths. All students have praised the college and tutors for giving them the opportunity to improve their education whilst living in the UK.
