Students and staff from Kirklees College took over Huddersfield Town Football Club for the Yorkshire derby match against Barnsley FC on Saturday 26 October 2019. The event; held at the John Smiths Stadium, involved over 50 people from different departments across the college, was hailed a success by HTAFC.

The aim of the takeover was to raise the profile of the partnership between Huddersfield’s largest college and Huddersfield Town Football Club. It also provided the college with a platform to showcase some of its 300+ courses and apprenticeships available, as well as raise money for the Royal British Legion through fundraising activities.

Many of the students undertook work experience on the day including stewarding and hospitality, work in the kitchens with catering company Kudos and retail experience within the Town Megastore.

The Taylor Hill Animal Centre took along some special friends to meet the crowds including ferrets, snakes, bearded dragons and a giant snail.

College staff also arranged fun family activities including giant games and competitions throughout the stadium before the match and at half time.

In addition, fans were entertained in corporate hospitality by talented musician Charmaine and were challenged to ‘Recreate Rambo’ in a drawing competition.

The takeover event also highlighted upcoming open days at Kirklees College, promoted adult community courses and also introduced people to the Pioneer Higher Skills Centre which is opening in Dewsbury in June 2020.

Commercial Director at Huddersfield Town, Sean Jarvis, said:

“Thank you to all the students and staff at Kirklees College who worked so hard for their #kctowntakeover. You all did a great job and we’re proud to be associated with you.”

Kirklees College open days are on Saturday 16 November, 10.30am – 12.30pm at all Huddersfield Centres and Tuesday 26 November, 5.30-7.30pm at Dewsbury Centres. They offer a chance to tour the facilities, speak to curriculum staff and find out about the wide range of courses on offer at Kirklees College, including full time and part time courses and apprenticeships.
