Leeds City College’s Students’ Union President, Emily Chapman, has been elected Vice President of Further Education for the National Union of Students (NUS).

From July, Emily will be the face of FE, running education campaigns, working with the Government and visiting SUs around the country to advise on best practice to implement change.

She has been involved in the college’s SU since starting her foundation degree course in Law and Criminal Studies in 2014. Since then, she has built up a Trustee Board, secured a £50,000 block grant to invest in the union and placed student voice at the heart of what Leeds City College does.

Emily, said: “I’m so excited to get started and put FE at the forefront of the Government agenda, making education the best it can be. I can’t thank everyone enough for voting for me.

“Being the SU President for Leeds City College has been a challenge but the best challenge I’ve had in my life. Without it, I wouldn’t have got to this position and developed the friendships that I have, and for that I am truly grateful.

Colin Booth OBE, Principal at Leeds City College, said: “We’re extremely proud of Emily’s achievements, she has been a great asset to the SU and the college.  Leeds City College logo

IT Student Hayvi Rahem will succeed Emily’s role as Leeds City College SU President from 1 July.
