From education to employment

New Adventure for Brecon Beacons College Graduates

We say goodbye to some of our Brecon Beacons College students as they complete their HND Sports Development and Coaching. Students Levi Phillips, Charlie Jones and Rhian Joseph graduated in July.

Both Levi and Charlie who studied Sports and Exercise Science and gained a Level 3 qualification have now completed the two year HND course. This sees students carry out placements in their local area, offering opportunities to coach at primary schools, and working within Mental Health projects. All three have successfully completed in-depth research projects on their chosen topic. The course allows students to become independent and allows them to gain confidence and their public speaking.

Levi, who is an under 11’s coach at Gwernyfed RFC achieved a Merit (B equivalent) with Charlie and Rhian both gaining a pass grade. Both Levi and Charlie are heading to one of our partner institutions, The University of South Wales, to study Sports and Physical Education.

Levi said: “I would like to say a bit thank you to my lecturers who made the course easy for me as they were always on hand when I had a query.”
Charlie from Hay-On-Wye added: “From this qualification, I am able to go to university and pursue my dream of becoming a physical trainer for the police.”

With students living just miles away from the College, it is an accessible way to gain a degree on your doorstep. Levi added: “Being able to study this qualification so close to home, made it a lot easier for me as I was able to work as well as continue my studies.”

We wish all our students the best with their new ventures.
