Barnsley College Tutor nets award for coaching excellence

Amy Horsfield, Sport tutor, at Barnsley College has won the Yorkshire Netball Teacher Award for outstanding contribution to Netball at the Golden Globe Awards.

The award recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to netball outside of their statutory teaching responsibilities.

Amy, a Level 2 Netball Coach, has helped develop the College’s Netball Academy with record numbers of students participating in the sport and taking up volunteering opportunities outside of College.

Amy is currently Assistant Head Coach at Sheffield Hallam University, Under 13 Lead Coach at Dronfield Netball Club and is part of the South Yorkshire Performance Pathway, which has enabled her to develop links for current students. Amy’s work at College and in the Yorkshire area is part of a wider effort to inspire more girls to immerse themselves within the sport.

Amy said: “It’s a great honour to receive this award. There are many fantastic volunteers who have definitely played a part leading up to this achievement. I hope by developing netball at Barnsley College we can raise the profile of the sport.

“We currently have students who are volunteering alongside me at the South Yorkshire Performance Pathway, it’s been a great opportunity for them to gain experience. This has inspired some of the girls to join netball clubs and complete their coaching qualifications.”
