Russell Group response to the launch of the new Researcher Development Concordat

In response to the launch of the new Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers today, Stephanie Smith, Head of Policy (Research and International) at the Russell Group said:

“The refreshed concordat shines a welcome light on the vital staff who power UK research and whose endeavours benefit every member of our society.

“The Russell Group is grateful to the Concordat Strategy Group for the opportunity to feed into the final document. As a sector, we have a collective responsibility to create a culture which values and supports researchers at all levels.

“In particular, early career researchers need time and opportunities to develop their research identity and leadership abilities, to give them both the freedom to innovate and the broader skills to succeed in a wide range of careers. This is in the national interest: their work will be central to the UK achieving its ambitious economic and industrial strategies.”
