The Society for Education and Training (SET) announce line up for SET Conference 2019

6th November 2019: Birmingham

The Society for Education and Training (SET), the professional membership body for those working across further education, vocational teaching and training has announced the line-up for its second national conference in Birmingham on 6 November. Shaped by members and practitioner-led, the conference aims to provide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) support and practical guidance for the Further Education (FE) and Training sector’s teachers, trainers and educators.

Last year’s inaugural conference was an award-winning success, which this year’s event looks to continue. More than 250 professionals from across the sector came to the first SET conference, with SET anticipating this year’s event to be fully booked with over 300 delegates.

The SET Conference, sponsored by the Skills and Education Group and Skills Forward, will combine the latest in sector thought leadership with detailed breakout sessions covering the latest in different areas of pedagogy. The latter includes two from one of Britain’s leading experts on teaching, Geoff Petty.

Confirmed speakers for the plenary session include Sally Dicketts, Chief Executive of Activate Learning, David Russell, Chief Executive of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), and education author David Didau. The plenary sessions will focus on current topics including developing leadership potential and technical pedagogy.

There are breakout sessions based on the theme of the day: ‘Promoting Professionalism’
which will allow for more detailed discussion and learning on a range of pedagogical fields.

Breakouts will cover the following topics:

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Leadership
  • SEND inclusion and learning support
  • Technical Education
  • Digital Technology in Teaching
  • English
  • Early Career Zone

Martin Reid, Director of Society for Education and Training, said:

“We are excited and proud to host the second SET Conference at the Vox Centre in Birmingham. With the theme of Promoting Professionalism this year’s event will offer delegates lots of practical takeaways from talks, breakout workshops and discussions across the day. The day will celebrate our sector’s professionals and their practice, showcase inspirational work, and promote the FE workforce’s valuable contribution to society.

“The conference agenda has been shaped by our members, including feedback on last year’s event. We are confident delegates will benefit from the updates on key topics affecting the post-14 education landscape and the networking opportunities available.

“We encourage everyone to take advantage of the early-bird offer as we expect tickets to sell out. We look forward to meeting all delegates in November.”

With content streams covering topical and practical information, and dynamic workshops throughout the day, teachers and trainers are being encouraged to hold this date in the diary and take advantage of the early-bird ticket offer.

Tickets cost £99 for SET members and £149 for non-members which includes all plenary and breakout sessions and a buffet networking lunch. However, through the early bird ticket offer SET members can purchase discounted tickets before 31 July for £69.
