From education to employment

Today is a good hair day for Kirklees College Students

It seems that dreams really do come true and thanks to a sprinkling of Christmas fairy dust and a touch of hard work and commitment, Gems and Jewels Hair Salon is open for business.

Gemma and Julie, two students from Kirklees College have been tirelessly fundraising to raise the bond for the Salon and are excited to be able to open their doors to the masses to offer hair and beauty services to the local area.

The salon is located in Sandy Mount, a Kirklees Council operated extra care home. The centre provides self-contained flats, allowing older people who have care and support needs to maintain their independence. Services such as a bistro, hair salon and activities are open to residents and the community, and it’s the hair Salon that the girls have taken on.

The salon is holding an opening celebration event on Saturday 1st December where they will be offering all gentlemen clients who have been participating in Movember the chance to have their facial hair trimmed or shaved off for a small donation. They won’t be leaving the ladies out though and will also be offering lip waxes. In addition, they will be toasting the opening with a glass of fizz and a festive mince pie before inviting people to beat the Christmas rush and book that all important Christmas hair and beauty appointment.

In addition, Gems and Jewels Hair have a number of opening offers including 20% off the first visit and a Christmas Special package which includes a cut and blow dry, gel nails and an eyebrow wax and tint all for the generous price of £50.

“We are excited to be able to finally open. At the beginning it looked a bit hit and miss and we were struggling to raise the deposit, but thanks to a lot of generous donations we have been able to finally get in. We are excited to meet clients new and old and have put some special packages together just in time for the festive period – so why not pop along for some pampering and get beautified in time for your Christmas or New Year’s Eve party,” said Gemma.
