Trinity Academy pupils raise money for Cancer Research

Trinity Academy pupils raise money for Cancer Research.

An event organised by Barnsley College (@barnsleycollege) saw over 80 pupils from Trinity Academy St Edward’s (@TrinityAcadStE) take to the race track to raise more than £150 for Race for Life, Cancer Research UK (@CR_UK).

The event, held at the College’s Honeywell Sports campus, was organised by Sport students as part of their course.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer. Race for Life has grown into a series of hundreds of events, raising nearly £900 million towards beating cancer over the last quarter of a century.

Nicole Horner, a PE teacher at Trinity Academy St Edward’s, said: “It has been a pleasure to work alongside Barnsley College and take part in several events since September. Being a new school in the community, it is great to make and build relationships with other schools and colleges in the area.

“Race for Life is a great event for anyone to take part in and our students feel lucky to have had the opportunity. The cause is very personal to some of our students so it was great that we could show our support.”

Joey Marshall, a Level 3 Sports, Coaching and Development student, added: “We have set up the event to encourage sport participation, and inspire children to get active whilst raising money for a good cause. Sport brings everyone together.”

Joseph Wilson, a Level 3 Sports, Coaching and Development student, commented: “It’s good to be part of something that is benefiting other people. I have gained experience in managing groups, organisational and communication skills which I can use in the future.”
