From education to employment

Network of Black Professionals chief speaks to FE News

Robin Landman, chief executive of the Network of Black Professionals (NBP), has told FE News about its work to represent black and minority ethnic populations across all levels of Further Education.

The social justice organisation celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008, and is particularly focused on it warns is the serious under-representation of black staff in the further education sector.

Mr Landman told FE News: “20 per cent of learners in the FE sector are from black and minority ethnic populations, and yet there is a serious under-representation on all levels and in all the job categories of black and minority ethnic community members.”

He also told how Barack Obama’s recent electoral success in the US has boosted the work of the NBP, as it showed that “in America anything really is possible for black communities, and we would like to work with progressive organisations [and] sector agencies to get that sort of determination to make a difference here.”
