Star tutor chosen to perform in dance spectacular

The head of London South East Colleges’ Greenwich campus has been selected to take part in a dance extravaganza, which will be performed at the O2, Croydon Box Park and Somerset House.

Lisa Stubbs from Greenwich, was one of nearly 2000 women who auditioned for the Art Council-funded project and one of just 200 selected to take part. The performance, called ‘Everything That Rises Must Dance’, marks the 40^th anniversary of London’s Flagship Festival of International Dance and is being led by Dance Umbrella.

Having joined London South East Colleges in 2017, Lisa set up the performing arts department in her role as Assistant Principal of Creative and Cultural Industries. She says:

“I was delighted to be chosen to be part of this special performance. In my role as a performing arts teacher, it’s important for me to live and breathe the industry.

“This type of project allows me to gain access to industry professionals and organisations – which is of real benefit to our students and the performing arts provision we offer in Greenwich.

“The most inspiring and creative job on the planet is that of a teacher. We often take risks and say yes to new experiences, starting each day as if it were the first. This is a similar mind set to actors and dancers, so I very much enjoy combining the two roles!”

Principal of London South East Colleges, Sam Parrett, says:

“We very much encourage our staff to immerse themselves in the industry they teach – as this ensures they can transfer relevant knowledge and vital skills to their students.

“We are very proud of Lisa’s achievements and she is an inspiration to her students.”

Everything That Rises Must Dance will be performed on Saturday 29 September at the O2, Sunday 7 October at Croydon Boxpark and Saturday 13 October at Somerset House.
