Global company BAE Systems visits North Kent College to demonstrate game-changing technology and recruit apprentices

BAE Systems visits North Kent College

BAE Systems visited North Kent College’s Gravesend Campus to showcase the latest technology they are utilising and to recruit North Kent College apprentices for their global business. BAE systems have head offices in London and employ over 85,000 staff in 40 countries worldwide.

Returning to North Kent College after a succession of recruitment drives  over many years to recruit apprentices, they were eager to return and visit Engineering students to discuss their highly successful apprenticeship programme.

The engineering students were given a presentation from Operations Director, Mark Applegate who discussed the range of apprenticeships our learners can follow and showed learners how their programmes can offer them development in their chosen course area and how they can further their skills whilst earning a salary.

Mr Applegate also showed the learners state of the art technology in the form of a  fighter pilot’s helmet which comprised the latest technology within its structure and was an example of the type of game changing technologies the company works on. BAE Systems partners with academic and industrial leaders to develop new technologies and to support future product strategies. They deliver innovative, affordable and effective capabilities to customers and drive sustainable growth.

Steve Crockford, Curriculum Manager Engineering, spoke very highly of the programme saying, “We have had a strong relationship with BAE Systems across a number of years where students have successfully completed the apprenticeship programme. It was clear from the number of questions that the students were asking that the apprenticeship opportunities offered by this company will be keenly followed, as indicated by the large number of students expressing interest both during and after the presentation”.

North Kent College are delighted to see students being so enthusiastic about the opportunities that BAE Systems has to offer and we look forward to seeing more  students continue on to working at with them in the future. The relationship they have built is on-going and going from strength to strength.
