Promoting Professionalism in FE & Training #SETConf19

SET Conference 2019

The Society for Education and Training (SET), the professional membership body for those working across further education, vocational teaching and training is hosting its second national conference in Birmingham today, Wednesday 6 November.

Shaped by members and practitioner-led, the conference aims to provide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) support and practical guidance for the Further Education (FE) and Training sector’s teachers, trainers and educators. Last year’s inaugural conference was an award-winning success, which this year’s event looks to continue with over 320 delegates booked to attend.

The SET Conference, sponsored by the Skills and Education Group and Skills Forward, will combine the latest in sector thought leadership with detailed breakout sessions covering the latest in different areas of pedagogy. The latter includes two from one of Britain’s leading experts on teaching, Geoff Petty.

Speakers for the Conference’s plenary session include Sally Dicketts, Chief Executive of Activate Learning, David Russell, Chief Executive of the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), and education author David Didau. The plenary sessions will focus on current topics including developing leadership potential and technical pedagogy.

There are breakout sessions based on the theme of the day: ‘Promoting Professionalism’ which will allow for more detailed discussion and learning on a range of pedagogical fields.

Breakouts will cover the following topics:

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Leadership
  • SEND inclusion and learning support
  • Technical Education
  • Digital Technology in Teaching
  • English
  • Early Careers Workshop

Martin Reid, Director of Society for Education and Training, said:
