From education to employment

WCG announces new free training for older workers

Workers aged over fifty and employed by a Worcestershire-based business can access free training thanks to a new project funded by the European Social Fund.

Train 4 Success, delivered by college group WCG, offers hundreds of different courses in a wide variety of subjects designed to upskill the countyā€™s workforce. The project aims to address the untapped potential in older workers to aid their professional development and benefit their employer.

Eligible workers must be 50+ and work for a small or medium sized business in Worcestershire.

Retaining, progressing and training older workers is vital to making the most of the UKā€™s ageing population. New research has shown that those aged over 50 already represent one in five of the UKā€™s workforce ā€“ and soon this proportion will rise to one in four as people continue to live, and work, longer.

Overlooking the upskilling of older workers poses a risk to UK businesses, with two thirds of employers reporting a skills shortage last year. A recent report found that the UK economy would benefit from a Ā£125 billion boost if workers received the upskilling they require.

Courses range from accountancy, IT and computing to land-based and first aid training and are taking place at multisite college group WCGā€™s seven campuses across Worcestershire and Warwickshire.
