Jennifer Coupland, Chief Executive Officer, The Institute

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (the Institute) is delighted that Jennifer Coupland has today (25 November) started as our new Chief Executive Officer.

Jennifer has replaced Sir Gerry Berragan as Chief Executive Officer, who was appointed to the post in 2017 and completed his 2-year contract last week.

Jennifer has extensive experience of working across technical education and apprenticeships. Her previous role was Director of Professional and Technical Education at the Education and Skills Funding Agency, part of the Department for Education (DfE).

Prior to that she was Deputy Director of the Apprenticeships Unit where she was responsible for apprenticeship reform, including creating new apprenticeship Trailblazer employer groups and degree apprenticeships. She was also Deputy Director at the DfE, responsible for the early stages of Traineeships development.

Jennifer said: “I am delighted be taking over as Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, which is driving the employer-led system of technical education and apprenticeships that I have helped shape through much of my career. I look forward to working closely with employers and other stakeholders and leading our great teams at the Institute”
