They are the knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society.
Green skills can be applied in various industries and professions, individuals should use a combination of technical and soft skills to understand, promote, and implement environmentally responsible practices for their organisation.
As sustainability is becoming more and more important, it is essential that we unlock the power of green skills to tackle pressing environmental issues like climate change, resource conservation, pollution reduction, and sustainable resource management. These skills are pivotal in fostering a greener, more eco-conscious, and sustainable future.
Transferable skills, also known as soft skills, are very important now and in the future as more jobs require green skills. These are the skills that can be applied across a wide range of jobs. Examples here could include strategic thinking, project management, decision-making, leadership, and effective communication.
While COVID-19 has altered careers and caused millions of people to lose their jobs, a shift towards a green economy could create millions of new and different jobs globally by 2030. Now more than ever, good decisions about the education and skills you will need in the future could lead to a sustainable and fulfilling career.
